Separation Techniques
The main focus of the separation techniques group is directed towards a systematic simplification of sample preparation techniques, as they are necessary to isolate trace components from complex environmental or biological sample matrices and to enable interference free chromatographic or spectroscopic measurements. Novel extraction techniques such as microwave assisted extraction or fluidized bed extraction are characterized and validated. The integration of isotopically labelled standards allows an optimization of the efficiency with respect to operational, ecological as well as economical aspects. Special emphasis is also given to further sample fractionation, enrichment and potentionally necessary derivatization steps.
